Swati Saxena

I have visited and volunteered with Koshika twice thrice in the last two years. For the first time, I spent just a few days understanding the work being done by the team, to know more about the region and to get introduced to the healthcare system in rural areas. The second time, I could use my skills in interviewing and working with women, to conduct verbal autopsy conversations with families who had lost their infants. It was powerful and touching, to say the least. The third time, I spent more than a month and got involved with multiple things including health camps, conducting interactive sessions with facilitators and looking at the healthcare ecosystem from a systems perspective.

All three times, I learnt as much, if not more, as I could contribute. The situation is alarming. People, especially women and children, are losing lives that can be saved with just the basic facilities and human dignity that’s scarce.
